Objectives of the scheme

The IDMF scheme covers inland fisheries, aquaculture, marine fisheries including deep sea fishing, mariculture and all activities undertaken by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) towards realizing “Blue Revolution”. Thus there are six broad components as follows:

  • National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and all its activities
  • Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post-Harvest Operations
  • Strengthening of Database & Geographical Information System of the Fisheries Sector
  • Institutional Arrangement for Fisheries Sector
  • Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) and other need-based Interventions.

Funding and Implementation

  • IDMF is a central sector scheme which provides 100% funding for the above components. Further, it also provides suitable linkages and convergence with Sagarmala Project of the Ministry of Shipping, MGNREGA, RKVY, NRLM etc.
  • The overall objective is to ensure a sustained annual growth rate of 6% – 8% as against an overall annual growth rate of about 4%.
